Hey there,
If you have been following me on Facebook you are aware that I have been taking a hiatus in order to finish my upcoming book. Boy, I didn’t realize how much time I recouped simply by saying, “no” to the good ole Facebook time. However, I am looking forward to getting back to doing my status updates of encouragements, touching base with folks and just doing Facebook stuff that causes the time to pass before you know it.
Anyway, in the midst of taking that time out, I have been able to get so much done toward the completion of my upcoming book which tentatively has the release date of December 29th. Just in time for using that gift certificate money from Christmas, hint hint!
Well, here goes….usually when I’m writing, I am very tight-lipped about my subject and the details of my work. Only my closest friends know little secrets or are allowed to hear excerpts to give me feedback. In this case, something really interesting happened that not only changed the direction of my writing but the avenue of it. I wanted to share it with you to hopefully encourage you to know that you got to go with your gut no matter how far you are into a writing project.
Over the past year as I was working on my book I was having the most difficult time focusing on a subject. I knew I wanted to deal with the topic of my passion and work (dreaming for the future and helping people to move toward their potential and purpose). However, my struggle was how to write it in such a way as to market…huh… rather minister effectively to people while staying fresh and being relevant.
First, I thought, “Charlotte, just break down, go against everything you believe and write a 4-step how-to book.” That thought quickly went out of my mind. Besides, there is no easy program for walking out one’s dreams or potential. Impossible. Then, I thought I would do what I do. Daily clients, writers, and average Joes ask for encouragement in taking the next step in moving or beginning their dreams or goals for their future. They have fears, doubts, concerns and simply need some direction and encouragement in figuring out what they want to be when they grow up. I simply wanted to write a book to reflect that. Sounds great right.
Well, that’s what I was doing and was getting a great response from people, publishers, etc. Then it happened. It happened after watching a movie and doing my usual thing…..researching to find out more. I’ll admit it, I am a bit intense. I went to see a movie about a guy and a group of people who dealt with the dream world and an alternate reality. No, I will not say the name of the movie to give it any more promotion.
I was very interested in exploring more about what happens to us while we are dreaming and decided to spend time researching the field. While I found out some incredible information, the only thing you really need to know regarding my writing is that one night I had a dream….that’s it, nothing more. I just had a dream. I might write more about the research I found in another post but not this one.
I had a dream that I was sitting on God’s lap and I was giving Him an earful about all the dreams and hopes I had that never happened in my life and the journey that seemed way too difficult for me to bear. As I sat on His lap understanding that I had all the time now available to me for an explanation, He lovingly looked at me and began to give me His side of the story. (Keep in mind, this was a dream. Only in a dream can you call yourself ordering God around). I won’t go into all the detail but I found myself waking up with tears in my eyes and remembering quite a few details from the dream which surprised me.
Well, I have rambled enough. I simply wanted to share with you of an interesting thing that happened on the way to writing my book. Did I some loose time having to start over?….yes. Did it push back my plans with publishing dates, etc?….yes. However, unlike my original book, I am inspired, excited and grow in wonder with each new word that is placed on the page like a curious child in a playland. Most importantly, I believe the words that are being written are inspired by His own hand as I am growing, learning and finding answers to questions that I have through the funny, heart to heart, mysterious, encouraging, and inspiring fictional story.
Be encouraged. No matter how far you’ve gone or how much you’ve written. Always follow your gut regarding your writing.
