ENCOURAGEMENT FOR TODAY- Thoughts on Lives Today in America
How are you doing today? Man it can get crazy in these times when people are so stirred up, angry, and fearful. I certainly don’t know what the answer is to everything that is happening. However, I have a few thoughts. I cannot speak for every African-American. While the whole “Black lives matter” is controversial. I think the message is this at its heart. “If I was your wife, husband, a friend, etc. and asked you, “Do I matter? Does my life count to you?” How would you respond? I think at the core, just like the “I am a Man” signs of the civil rights movement, while some people are not receiving it in the acceptable way they want it, the message is the same. African-Americans (and as quiet as it is kept, people of all color) are saying, “Of course all lives matter, but after the daily treatment, double standards, lack of justice, subtle abuse, etc. do I matter, as your African-American (people of color) brothers and sisters to YOU?” Do you really care about me enough to stop the defensiveness in how I’m saying it and hear my pain and desire to be heard and treated the same? Can you look at my hurt as to why I would even need to point and cry out that I matter instead of shaming me and calling me names (i.e. Sarah Palin)?
As Americans in general, I think we are tired of being lied to and then told it was our fault or there was really no lie. There is no accountability or protection for us who the political office was meant to SERVE. So anyone who is willing to look different will do. I would much rather a politician make a mistake then confess and tell the truth. That is someone of integrity. The days of the old presidents with character and servanthood (in all their faults) is long over. We keep blaming each other for what is not working in our own lives and demand that others be who we want them to be. This is not Heaven and will never be.
It is difficult, but I have to remember that I have no control over anyone and my identity is not in my job, what others think of me, what I do, what I have, who gets elected into office, who likes me on Facebook, if I’m married or single or anything else. My ultimate source of love, worth, and acceptance comes from Jesus Christ and who I am in Him alone. To that degree, I can stand up for those things I need to yet let go of those things I don’t. Be encouraged. He, not we, are in control regardless of elections, the world situation, foolish hatred and thing else. This is God’s timeline and nobody else’s. Don’t get it twisted. Everything that is happening is right on the timeline…I believe you too can read about it in BIBLE. Have a wonderful day ya’ll. Sorry for being so long.
You can do this!
