I come across many fascinating people and the person I want to introduce you to today is one of them. Please welcome Roz Baker.
In September 2001, after months of blinding headaches, Roz was diagnosed with an Arterio Venous Malformation. An AVM is a cluster of malformed veins that bulge when high-pressure blood from an artery flows into them. If the condition is not corrected with surgery, the result is usually stroke or death.
The brilliant doctors who performed two separate procedures on Roz are the constant subject of her praise and thanks. She had a complete recovery with no loss of any mental function and now travels the country with her lively book talks and bush poetry presentations. Her recovery from brain surgery gives her an opportunity to share her faith briefly during her talks – which are mainly to secular audiences.
Roz Baker is one of Australia’s most successful self-published novelists. She is an Advanced Toastmaster and an award-winning Bush Poet. Roz incorporates humor and inspiration into each presentation and speaks to over 100 groups a year from the NSW south coast to Brisbane. Roz is an Advanced Toastmaster who has won many trophies for humorous and impromptu speaking. Roz travels 50,000km each year between Victoria and Brisbane, telling the inspirational story of overcoming brain surgery before self-publishing four successful novels. She includes a light-hearted touch to her presentations by reciting some of her bush poetry.
Roz has sold approximately 20,000 books, making her one of the most successful self-published novelists in Australia. She attributes her success to a simple formula: Have a good product. Be prepared to do a lot of driving. Be a polished public speaker.
Roz has a new book series out called “The Sooner or Later” series. “Sooner Or Later We All Stop Laughing”, is the first book in the Sooner Or Later Trilogy. The 3 books are predominantly set in Australia and have a lot of the quirky humor that Australians are famous for. The total number of books sold in the trilogy is 24,000. These have been sold through speaking engagements which have taken her across 4 states, driving approx 40,000 Kms per year.
The Sooner or Later series by Roz Baker has proven that self-publishing is a viable option.
BOOK SYNOPSIS:
No ordinary romance. This is a story of love.
For 16 years, Elizabeth Conroy had been slowly suffocating in her Pollyanna straightjacket, when circumstances dealt her a crushing blow. Gone was the laughter and the life she had known as bitterness and anger bit into her soul. She knew she had to escape the city and all she had held dear before she emotionally festered to death.
Looking like a vagrant, Elizabeth roamed the Queensland hinterland, not at all sure that life had any value. But one thing she was sure of, no one would ever push her around again.
