The Three-Fold Manner That God Leads- (Follow up from Bryan)
I shared the blog post with Bryan to let him know of the impact his email had on me. Here is his reply to me. I thought it would serve as additional encouragement to someone. Have a great weekend.
In Abraham’s and Sarah’s case, their efforts to “help God” fulfill His vision for them only resulted in Abraham’s fathering the child Ishmael through Hagar and thus initiating the Arab-Israeli conflict that has plagued the world ever since. It was only when Abraham and Sarah were brought to the end of themselves and their own ability to accomplish that vision God had given them, that God “did the impossible” and resurrected that vision with the result that Isaac was born to them.
I’m convinced from how I’ve observed God working through my own experience that the entire purpose of the “death” experience in the lives of God’s saints is merely to bring us to the end of ourselves. Otherwise, we take the glory for accomplishing in the flesh that which only God’s Spirit can truly accomplish (Zech. 4:6). Perhaps the apostle Paul said it best regarding this particular aspect in the way God dealt with him in II Cor. 1:9–“Indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves in order that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead.”
Regardless of where we are in our odyssey of life, one thing is for sure: God’s ways do not change and are certainly not our ways. (Isa. 55:8, 9). That’s why Prov. 3: 5, 6 stresses the importance of relying on our faith rather than relying on our “understanding.” God bless you, Charlotte. Thanks for your ministry.
