ENCOURAGEMENT FOR TODAY- Pharaoh’s Army and The Red Sea
Exodus 14:10, 14:13-15, 14:21-22
Some have been walking through a journey of relocating to a new town, changing a direction in life, or moving toward a purpose or dream. You believe you are following the Lord’s call. However, there are those in your life who believe you are strange, are considering a speedy assist to help you admit to an asylum, or simply love you enough to watch and wait to see what happens.
This encouragement is not about your decision to follow God’s current call in your life. This encouragement is not even about the difficulties and frustrations of situations that continue to occur in your life. This encouragement is about that place in your journey when you arrive between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea.
You will come to a place in your journey where you will realize you cannot go back to safety, go home, or undo a situation. You will view the obstacles in your journey and say, “If God does not perform a miracle I am going down, I will lose everything, I will lose my mind.” or be in the worse possible mess you can imagine. Have you ever been there? Are you there now?
The bank has foreclosed on your home that was once a place of safety, shelter and security. You lost your job and all you see is a wall of fear, unemployment, and “No way out!” You do not know where your next dollar is coming from, you desperately seek God’s provision, direction and help, and feel like you are in a waiting room bleeding from a vein with God failing to answer with an immediate life-saving bandage.
Maybe you have wonderful dreams to be a writer, speaker, great mother, business owner, missionary, motivator, teacher, etc. Yet you think of past mistakes, wrong decisions, lack of training or education, huge risks, or insurmountable obstacles. Like the children of Israel, you are in that place between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea.
Encouragement comes from the very words God gave Moses to tell His children.
“Do not fear” – that does not mean to avoid deep feelings, heartache or even have fear. It means, after you cry and moan out all your worries, pain and fears, then hold onto the truth of His words. He has a perfect plan, it is impossible for Him to fail, His timing is perfect, He knew you before you were in your mother’s womb and has orchestrated every step for your life.
He controls and owns EVERYTHING, EVERYONE AND EVERY PLACE, and so much more.
“Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord” – that means to hold on. You might feel like you are drowning and any second (whatever that army is in your life) you will be crushed and there is seemingly no way out. With everything that is in you, hold on and stand in courage knowing God has your situation in total control. God controls what happens to you and NOBODY else.
“The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent” – this is difficult to do sometimes. It means to keep silent, be still, to give up with the intent of never claiming a right or interest while God alone fights and deals with the situation. He does not say, plan, control, and help Him to try to work it out, tell everybody and mama about the situation, or work harder, He tells us to be still and know He is God.
Finally, “Tell the sons of Israel to go forward.” – God gave them and us an action to do…move forward. God did all the work but He desires us, even in the midst of our armies and red sea, to move forward. In spite of our fear of the unknown, worries, impossibilities and everything else…move forward, take that next step in courage, and have faith that He is God. Sometimes that next step is to say, “No, I will not give into my fear” or “I just lost my home and have no place to go but I am going to call somebody to pray and share my heartache with or call for available shelters, etc.”
What do you do when you are between Pharaoh’s army and the Red Sea? You feel what you feel then hold onto the truth, stand in courage KNOWING God knows exactly what is happening, and He’s going to work it out. Remain still, taking your hands off trying to figure things out. Then move forward by handing the army and sea back to God and choosing to believe either God is God or He is not.
Finally, breathe and thank the Lord for what He is about to do (whatever form that take shape) and focus on His abilities instead of your inabilities.
God opens Red Seas! Hang in there. You are not alone and your situation is NOT unknown to Him.
