Perhaps you have heard the story about the mother who gave her son some jobs to do. The son left a note for his mother to see before he left for school the next morning. The note read, “For cleaning my room-$2.00, For washing dishes-$2.00, For putting away my clothes-$2.00, For mowing the lawn-$2.00, For washing the dog-$2.00 – total=$10.00. ” The mother read it, put $10.00 on the table, and then wrote her own note. The note read, “For carrying you nine months – no charge, For staying up with you when you were sick – no charge, For ironing your clothes so you could go to school looking good – no charge, For putting food on the table – no charge – total = no charge. It was just because I loved you”
When the little boy saw the note of his mother he gave back the $10 dollars. He knew what she asked him to do was only the right response to do out of her love for him.
In today’s world, death, pain, evil, struggle, and suffering happens. It is no surprise. The bible not only tells us that in the world WILL have troubles but as time moves closer to Jesus’ return, life on this Earth will get worse. Unfortunately, because we are all imperfect, flawed humans, when things go well, we take credit and when things go bad, it is due to a vengeful God who has the audacity to include something called Hell in His plans (bad God, how could you?) Okay, enough of my sarcasm.
The fact is we get angry at God. You want to know what is cool about that? He not only knows that we get angry with Him but He can handle our anger and wants us to come clean and stop pretending like we are not. Yes, He is holy and awesome and to be honored. Yet, He is our Abba Father and through Jesus, He is our best Friend whom we can confide and tell everything to in every way. So the first step is to be real, like with a best friend, and talk to Him about our disappointment, anger, frustration, etc. It is not to straighten Him out but for us to come clean to start dealing with Him honestly. You will be amazed at what happens. Remember, anger, rage, disappointment, frustration, depression are other words to replace the word, “hurt” they just take different shapes.
Second, like the little boy who realized what his mother did for him, often we fail to be grateful because we are so focused on what we don’t have. Right now, I don’t have a job. But I praise God that I have a warm bed and home to sleep in instead of the sidewalk. When we truly look at the things that we have that He provides that we cannot do for ourselves and certainly do not deserve (nor could ever repay), how can we complain about anything. While God can certainly handle our anger and knows everything we are going through (and has a perfect plan in the midst of it), He desires us to trust Him and be grateful for the fact that He is good and doing what is best for us despite what we see.
Being angry is okay. Remember feel what you feel THEN get up and hold on to the Truth and who He is.
You can do this!
