Sometimes I think about the life of Moses in the bible. He felt at a very early age that he was the one to deliver his people out of their oppression and slavery in Egypt. In his belief that he was already qualified and knew the whole story, he struck down a guy who was beating down one of his people. Hurray for Moses? Not quite. In response, God allowed Moses to be sent to the desert to feed sheep for forty years. After that, God appeared to Moses and told him the deal about going to the people in Egypt and His plan to rescue them from oppression and slavery. Moses responded by saying, “Who am I that I should go?” In the beginning Moses realized a vision was placed on him and acted out of his own beliefs and will. However, the process of training and timing had to come first in order for the bigger purpose of his vision to be used. The vision was not about Moses, it was about God and what He wanted to do THROUGH Moses.
We often experience the same journey as Moses. We sense a strong direction, calling, purpose, leading or a desire in our hearts yet training and time are still needed before we are properly in a position for that calling to take hold. It is frustrating isn’t it? There are certain things that we can have some control over as humans like goals or certain events. I can plan a party and with the right organization the event will take place. I can say I want to lose two pounds in a certain amount of time and based on eating and exercise habits, that will be easy to achieve. However, when I sensed a direction that my life was going to be used to pour into hurting people (women specifically) to help them see their worth in Christ and a purpose in their pain, how was I going to control the outcome of that?
We have been given everything we need. Yet, the difficult and frustrating part of the journey is the waiting and shaping part of preparation. Daily we have a purpose to walk in while being transformed and shaped and refined into the purpose of what we have been created for by His hand. The great comfort is in knowing everything is in His perfect timing including our preparation. We are not too old, too ill, Too behind the goal, too uneducated, too poor, too young, too anything. We are right where He wants us. We will not leave this earth until His will and His purpose in us is fulfilled. Remember, the vision, purpose, direction, etc. is not about us or what we want to accomplish for Christ. It is always about Him and want He wants to do through the vision, purpose, direction, etc. He has given us for His glory. We are being prepared to know how to master his gift that He has given us. We are not waiting on Him, He is waiting on us.
It might feel like doors are closing. Right now, He is lovingly preparing us and trying to help us see those things we cannot understand and change our ways to His ways so He can do what He has planned with us. His plans in and through us are so much bigger that we can imagine.
