Yep, that sounds crazy doesn’t it? But that’s real life. Often, as Christians we have mixed feelings because of being told we should not have disappointment or be angry with God yet we have those feelings inside of us. We forget that God is all-knowing, everywhere, and is all-powerful. He knows every thought we have whether we say it out loud, realize it, or not. Sometimes our struggles are in believing we cannot be real in our feelings with God or that He will get angry with us if we say how we really feel. Believe me, not only does He already know but until we are honest, we remain stuck in our relationship with God. Like a real human relationship, He desires us to be honest and real with Him yet knowing that He alone is God.
Disappointment is simply hurt due to lack of the fulfillment of an expectation. We had an expectation that the Lord would do something and that expectation was not fulfilled. Suddenly, we fear trusting Him again because we do not want to feel that hurt of being disappointed again. Yet, the Lord reminds us that our expectation should be in Him instead of the thing we desire. (Example: Instead of trusting that He will provide $200 to take care of a certain bill, trust that God will provide in a way that is best for me and glorifies Himself. That might look like receiving $200 or more, allowing the bill company to work out an unbelievable plan with you, someone helping you pay for the bill, allowing a method to pay for the bill, etc.) The key is, allowing God to answer our prayer in His way knowing everything and everyone involved. He often knows that for us to simply receive the thing we ask for will not serve as great of a purpose as how He does things.
So how do we trust God when we feel He has disappointed us? We get up and trust Him again despite how we feel. Our pain wants to shut down our potential and keep us stuck in fear of moving forward. Our pain and fear of getting hurt prevents us from taking risks, getting healthy, and moving into healthy relationships. Don’t do it!
Be Encouraged. You can do this.
Take care,
Charlotte
