It is impossible to discuss the word “trust” without also dealing with the word “faith.” Trust, as a verb, is an action word of walking in the process of hoping and confidently expecting a certain outcome to happen regarding our dreams and our future. Faith is a noun, a steadfast belief in something for which there is no proof. It is complete trust. Trust and faith both require hope in something for a time that has not yet come.
Similarly, in a human relationship, before we can trust someone to keep our secrets and walk safely in our lives, we must have a measure of faith and belief in their unproven character that they are able to be that type of friend.
Faith is vital because there will be times in the journey when the going will be rough, our hope will sway, and our confidence in expecting an outcome to happen will sag. Our trust is tested. Faith, unlike trust, is steadfast and does not change because of struggles or situations. Either we believe in something for which there is no proof, whatever that might be, or we do not.
The key for each of us will be to find something we can have faith in that is bigger than we are as we pursue our dreams. We will need a source to cling to when the journey gets rough and trusting is hard. Keep in mind, if the subject of our faith is faulty, our trust will be weak.
What do you have faith in as you take your next step?
Take care,
Charlotte
